How is it possible to prevent drug addiction?
Today is International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The United Nations General Assembly decided on 7 December 1987 that 26 June would be observed as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the UN Office on Drugs and Crime that leads the fight against illicit drugs.
How is it possible to prevent drug addiction?
UNODC was established in 1997 and has offices around the world. In 2016, the General Assembly held a special session on drugs. June 26 is observed internationally to highlight the serious impact that drug abuse and addiction have on people’s lives and on social peace, development and growth. The main goal of this day is to make the world drug-free.
1. Support to Member States: The United Nations provides technical and financial assistance to Member States to address the drug problem.
2. Awareness Raising: The United Nations works to raise public awareness about the ills of drug addiction through various publicity and education programs.
3. Anti-Drug Fund: The United Nations has established a fund to combat the drug problem, which finances anti-drug activities and research.
These United Nations initiatives play an important role in solving the drug problem and help member states meet this challenge. Drugs or addictive substances can be mainly divided into two categories.
